You can laugh as loud and as long as you like, but it won’t change anything. The world just keeps rolling along through space at its own pace. Eventually the rock we are on will get sucked back into the chaos and return to dusty molecules of matter and energy. That’s OK. It is how things are, have always been and will continue to be.

I’m over my bout of Schadenfreude and looking to see how I can survive until the inevitable kicks me out of the game. I’ve been here a while. Longer than I ever imagined. I’m learning more now that I’m older than I learned in all those years that came before. Seeing the end approach makes for greater perception of everything.

The set of people who sit atop the pyramid are not really new, we’ve seen their likes before in history. Nobody really reads history any more of course because it requires concentration and memory and with the TikTok attention span dominating the human race, it’s hard to get people to concentrate on anything. And all memory is now on some chip somewhere lost in a cloud.

This sounds rather depressing, doesn’t it? Well, it shouldn’t be depressing for you. The human race is resilient. The rulers of today are old decrepit men—men. History will happily tell you that despots never last for more than 40 years. And those are despots who got to the top when they were young. These old dudes will be gone in 10 years or less. And don’t forget, each one sits on top of a very sharply pointed pyramid. It is very uncomfortable. He squirms and fidgets. He is paranoid. He is a sociopath. The sword of Damocles hangs by a hair over his head each day. I say “He” and I mean “They.” They are doomed.

That doesn’t make it any easier or better for you and me. Your main job is to survive and allow your children to survive without being sucked into the vortex of the war machines these dudes like to create. My mother was adamant that if anyone came to put me into an army she would hide me under the bed. That’s a figurative “under the bed.” Anyway, she would know, she survived the second world war in Germany and Italy. And then I came along.

These are the lyrics of the second half of a rather long song that I wrote a while back. The first part is autobiographical, but this last part brings the reality of history into context, with my life just a thread running through the giant weave of time.

You can listen to the whole song on the streaming services.
You can see a video of the song without subtitles or with subtitles.

Enjoy!

I’m older than you think I am
but younger than that now
these things might look new to you
but they all repeat somehow
evil loves winning
law is bought and sold
another fool is born
before your corpse gets cold
before your corpse gets cold

welcome to the circus
of greed and desire
where hell is ice
and heaven is on fire
earthly delights
tease you from tv
no satan, no god
will ever set you free
you’ll never be set free

promises always broken
betrayal in every smile
to eternal damnation
condemn them without trial
frozen deep in ice
politicians need to be
in the 9th circle of hell
the home of treachery
home of treachery

each story has a hero
in this one it’s you
you have a thousand faces
and much to go through
your story has a beginning
a middle and an end
an important revelation
and a message to send
you have a message to send

go forth brave warrior
tread the golden path
lay aside revenge
lay aside wrath
shine like a diamond
reflecting the light
never back down
continue thy fight
continue the fight

never back down
continue thy fight
